LEADING CONNECTION GROUPS AT A GLANCE

THE MISSION

Veritas exists to move the hearts and minds of more college students to believe that Jesus Is More.

Connection Groups are a space where college-aged students come together to grow in community and explore how the Bible speaks to life as a college student. Slowly, over time, we pray God would use these people and this space to form deep friendships that are rooted in a love for Jesus. We do this by:

  • Facilitating discussions about Biblical community and how to pursue it
  • Hosting a weekly social before or after the discussion to encourage Connection Group members to build friendships.
  • Providing students with an older Veritas student to guide and support them in their first semester/year of college.

CONNECTION GROUP LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES

(5-8 hours/week)

These time commitments are our starting point. We understand that you have very busy work and school schedules as a student. Some weeks will be busier than others, so we ask that you be thoughtful about scheduling your time.

Common responsibilities include:

  • Attending Tuesday Nights consistently
  • Active, consistent participation in your own Veritas small group
  • Attending Sunday services regularly and being a member of The Crossing (be baptized at The Crossing if applicable)
  • Attending and being involved in only Veritas, not other college ministries
  • Planning, preparing, hosting, and facilitating the Connection Group you lead
  • Connecting regularly with Connection Group members (meetings, hangouts, etc.)
  • Regular meetings with Veritas staff for coaching and mentoring
  • Attendance at large group events and trips when possible

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU

We want to make sure you feel supported and equipped as you lead your Connection Group. To that end, the Veritas staff is committed to meeting regularly with you to:

  • Spiritually develop you as a follower of Jesus
  • Coach you in your role as a Connection Group leader
  • Sharpen you, encourage you, and challenge you

LEADER CHARACTER

Often, what a college student desires most is a place and a group of people to feel at home with. In a season of transition and new experiences, having a leader who supports, cares for, and invests in them makes all the difference. This usually requires intentionality, sacrifice, and time. Our hope and prayer is that Connection Group leaders would be a reflection of Jesus to these freshmen. We don’t expect Connection Group leaders to be perfect. Rather, we expect you to be growing and modeling what it looks like to follow Jesus in college. “Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.” (1 Tim. 4:12)

So, during the period of time you lead for us, we ask you to commit to growing in these areas. That means, as areas of struggle inevitably come up, you commit to bringing those things to the awareness of your staff member for sharpening, encouragement, and accountability. We deeply care about your formation as a follower of Jesus, and part of growing means we have to do the uncomfortable work of bringing things into the light.
